An Australian version of the US Real Housewives franchise is set to air on Foxtel in 2013. The trash TV phenomenon, which follows the pampered wives of the uber riche, began with The Real Housewives of Orange County, followed by spin-offs in Beverly Hills, New York, Atlanta, New Jersey and Miami.

The Real Housewives of Australia will be "uniquely Australian" and will give viewers a glimpse at "the extravagant lives of five of Australia’s most privileged, powerful and glamorous women", according to Foxtel's head honcho.
