It's official: Kyle Sandilands has been dumped as an Australian Idol judge after a 14-year-old girl hooked up to a lie-detector test on his notorious radio show confessed she'd been raped.

The big question now is: can the long-running reality show weather a storm of controversy this big?

Short answer... of course it can! Idol has been churning out scandals since it first burst on to our screens in 2003. There's been hardly a season since that hasn't been mired in some sort of hullabaloo — a little ol' scandal like this isn't going to bring down the reality TV juggernaut.
