On November 10, 2009, Sesame Street will celebrate its 40th anniversary on television — meaning it's possible that folks who are almost 50 years old could have grown up on the show.

The kids' classic is a cultural phenomenon, but it's not just the original American incarnation of Sesame Street that's captured imaginations. While most of us learned our ABCs from Big Bird and Grover, others learned their Д Б Жs from Koko Kwik-Kwak or Moishe Oofnik in other parts of the world.

The original series of Sesame Street has been broadcast in more than 120 countries and since the 1970s it's spurred more than 30 international spinoffs.
