Watch: Russia sends grandma girl group to Eurovision

Six grannies are set to represent Russia at this year's Eurovision song contest.

Buranovskiye Babushki ("grannies from Buranovo") beat 24 other hopefuls, including Julia Volkova of t.a.T.u ( the one with all the plastic surgery) to win the public vote, confirming that this year's display of European musical prowess will be just as weird, wacky and wonderful as ever.

The grannies (some of whom are over 70 years old) wowed the Russian public with their tune: "Party for Everybody," which starts out innocently folky… before morphing into a pumping, Eurodisco dance track!

They're no wannabe, spotlight-loving pop princesses, though. The women hope to raise enough money from their performances to build a new church in Buranovo, with Grandmother Olga telling Agence France Presse: "Grandmothers do not need glory and wealth."

Check out the Babushki doing their thing in the clip above. Too cute.

...and then came the disco lights
