Idol winner hospitalised for drug overdose

The singer, who won Idol in 2004, was admitted to a hospital near her home in North Carolina after police received a 911 emergency call at around 10.15pm on August 9. A police report obtained by TMZ claims that cops who arrived at her home were told Fantasia had attempted to commit suicide with aspirin and sleep aid pills.

Fantasia's representatives later released a statement claiming the singer was overwhelmed by a lawsuit and the media attention surrounding her boyfriend Antwaun Cook, a married man whose wife may sue the couple for adultery.

"Her injuries are not life threatening," the statement read. "She was dehydrated and exhausted at the time. Fantasia is stable now. She will be released from the hospital soon."
