Mad Men: beloved by critics, ignored by viewers

Accompanying article is definitely correct - the better the show the less people actually watch it! Look at a show like Supernatural - it has a maniacal cult following due to its clever and gripping storylines but it has never been a huge ratings winner. All I can say is thank God (or relevant deity!) for shows like Mad Men. Finally there is something on tv that I can get excited about. The writers on this fabulous series are geniuses and I love every single character (except maybe Betty Draper - she kinda gets on my nerves!). I am totally invested in the lives of these people (I know, sad isnt it?) and cant wait to start season 4!

how come its in its 4th season if its not a commercial success? i have seen it once and still trying to decipher how i feel about it - on the one hand it's a clever send up and on the other hand it seems to be upholding not only current stereotypes of women (and men) but actually putting forward ones that are 50 years out of date!! It is definitely male point of view, the men are "normal" and the women are mostly two dimensional. There's a lot of male fantasy in play too - wifey just there for me etc. I don't think it bears much on what actually took place in the fifties and sixties - it owes more to movies and tv of the time which were not an accurate reflection either.

Couldn't tell you what station and time this was on. If it's on Foxtel, not everyone has it. Needs more promotion.

I watch it. One of the few shows that doesn't need explosions or nudity to draw in the viewer. Great dialogue and very witty.
