Jessica Simpson gets her own sitcom - based on her life!

She was the unassuming breakout comedic star of mid-2000s reality TV show Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica with ex-husband Nick Lachey.

Now Hollywood is realising that Jessica Simpson's real life LOL moments could lead to bigger things.

The singer/actress/designer who famously questioned the difference between tuna and chicken is teaming up again with Fashion Star producers Electus, the NBC network and comedy writer Nick Bakay (the voice of Sabrina's cat!) to make the semi-autobiographical sitcom.

"I often find myself thinking that no-one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life, so between the real-life elements and a great team of writers, I think we'll have people laughing," Jessica said of the project.

Hailing her as "a modern-day Lucy [Lucille Ball] with incredible comedic chops," producer Ben Silverman described the likeability of Jess' "everyday" realness.

"From running a fashion empire to wrangling her public image as a new mom, we see Jessica's character approach a variety of 'everyday' circumstances that will get audiences laughing out loud,” Silverman said.

Currently a spokeswoman for Weight Watchers, Jess's previous acting credits include Dukes of Hazzard, Employee of The Month, That 70s Show and Entourage.

The hard-working mum, who is pregnant with her second child to fiancée Eric Johnson, said that she is "excited" to work on this new project.

Her dad, "Papa" Joe, who has had his fair share of real life drama involving gay rumours recently, will also be involved in the show.

We wonder if his controversial personal life will make its way into the script?
