Samantha Jade wins X Factor - Did she deserve to win?

Judging by the crowd decibels at the start of the show, we could be mistaken for thinking that The Collective were going to win this The X Factor Australia, but the crowd erupted when it was announced later that Perth pop diva Samantha Jade had won.

Her mentor Guy Sebastian was beaming when the winner graced the stage to perform her debut single, 'What You've Done to Me' (listen below).

"Thank you so much for believing in me and giving me another chance," the 25-year-old said after her win.

Samantha had previously said she had “given up” after trying to make it in the business for years.

"My parents were the ones who said 'no, you've got to give it another go',” she recalled in a flashback video on the finale.

Now, Sammy has been hailed as Australia's next Kylie Minogue.

Fans of Jason Owen, who came second, and The Collective, who came third, took to Facebook and Twitter overnight claiming that they should have won instead.

"Jason was by far the best" said one supporter, “He should of won."

But many X Factor followers agreed that "the best one won on the night."

However, there was an online backlash against those who expressed their suspicions that "Sammy and Guy are friends and it wasn't a fair competition".

"The public were saying the show was rigged," one fan said. “Because they thought The Collective were going to win, they didn’t win, Sammy did and people are still saying the show is rigged. I don’t get it."

The majority of comments on the official X Factor Facebook page were positive about Sammy's win.

"So glad she won," one fan posted. "She clearly deserved it. Well done Samantha!"

Others have expressed their opinion that the other contestants will be just as successful as Sammy.

"Don't forget Ricki Lee, Jessica Mauboy, Shannon Noll, Johnny Ruffo et al,” one supporter posted. “Loads of now famous Aussies that didn't win first place. Sammy, Jason and Collective will all go far."

Previous X-Factor Australia contestant Johnny Ruffo congratulated the winner via Twitter.

"Congratulations @sjademusic well deserved win!!!! Massive future ahead in the music industry :-)," he wrote.

But the editor of Marie Claire, Jackie Frank tweeted her support for The Collective boys.

"I hope this is not the end but the beginning of The Collective," she wrote.

At the end of the day we all had the opportunity to vote, but are you happy with the results? Who do you think should have won?
