The clip, a mere 15 seconds of dialogue set to a new logo, gives a very mysterious tease of what's to come in the next 10 episodes of HBO's extremely well-received fantasy epic. It also announces the premiere date: March 31, 2013.
As the voiceover explains, "The great war is between death and life, ice and fire. If we lose, the night will never end”. This may well be in reference to the season finale (which we won't spoil for those who haven't seen it. To which we ask, why not?).
At this stage, it's not clear who is speaking these lines — but expect more information and teasers, to surface between now and March.
Game of Thrones season three is based on author George R R Martin's third novel A Storm of Swords in the ongoing A Song of Ice and Fire series.
