Aussies Nicole Kidman and Judy Davis went home empty-handed from this year's Emmy Awards.

The pair were pitted against each other in the category of Best Actress in a Mini Series or Movie but both missed out to Julianne Moore, who won for Game Change.

Game Change, a political drama produced by HBO, scooped a further three awards, including Outstanding Miniseries or Movie.

For the first time in Emmy history, none of the four major US TV networks had a show nominated in the big-ticket categories of Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama, or Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama.
