It’s reported that producers were pursuing Katy for weeks, and were so keen they increased their offer from $18 million to an all-time high of $20 million.
However, Katy's reservations are reportedly not related to money. Rather, she didn't believe it was the right career move for her.
Last month she told The Hollywood Reporter "People have reached out to me about the possibility of being involved, and it's not right for me yet."
In July Mariah Carey signed on to judge next season, accepting an $18 million pay cheque and making her TV’s highest-paid judge. But there are still a few empty seats beside her after Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler announced their departures this summer. Randy Jackson, who has been with the series since it started in 2002, will move on from the judging panel to become a mentor.
Other celebs rumoured to be possible replacements include Nicki Minaj, Nick Jonas, and Keith Urban.
The show’s former star JLo negotiated about $12 million per Idol season, Christina Aguilera is getting a reported $10 million for the latest season of The Voice, and Britney Spears will take home a reported $16 million for appearing on The X Factor.
