Howzat! Kerry Packer's War wins Sunday night ratings race
The first instalment of the blockbuster mini-series Howzat! Kerry Packer’s War recorded an extraordinary 2.09 million viewers last night.

The highly anticipated story of the birth of World Series Cricket follows Kerry Packer through his revolutionary changes to the game in the late '70s. Packer introduced "supertests" and, later, the World Series Cricket which changed the game forever.

The all-star lineup was led by Lachy Hulme, who embodied the media mogul with his bulked up physical transformation and macho swagger.

Hulme, who also co-stars in the hit Offspring, is known to throw himself into roles. He stacked on weight for his role as Todd Russell in Beaconsfield, the story of the Tassie mine collapse. Just as he lost it, he had to regain it all for Howzat!

The cast was rounded out by Brendan Cowell, Matt Le Nevez, and Abe Forsythe all tapping into '70s nostalgia. Moustaches, flares, and a soundtrack to capture the era added to the drama. The soundtrack even broke the iTunes top 10 album sales chart — less than 24 hours after its release.

The series was trending worldwide on Twitter with Hulme’s performance garnering much of the attention. Shane Warne and Liz Hurley both laid on the praise, with Warne tweeting, "Every cricketer today should be so thankful for what Kerry Packer and the players did in the '70s ... Well done to everyone — fantastic."

Howzat! will conclude with episode two this Sunday at 8.30pm.
